Football: Fast Hands-Half Goal

Very good interactive coaching drills.

DESCRIPTION

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

Goalkeeper starts on the near post after every service.
A ball is played from server 1 for server 2 to do a side foot volley.
Server 1 should have a good supply of balls to keep server 2 supplied with volleys.

NOTES:

Allow the goalkeeper time to recover to the feet.
If the server is struggling to play side foot volley then S2 can serve from a volley out of the hands

COACHING POINTS

Goalkeeper to turn in and get good hand position to deal with high or low service.
Make sure the goalkeeper does not turn away but uses the hands to protect themselves as well as make the save or catch

PROGRESSION

Increase the power and do not serve directly into hands so the goalkeeper may now have to tip the ball over or around the post interspersed with catches.

Goalkeepers reactions need to be sharp when shots are coming from in close. Work on your keepers ability to get something behind the ball even when they might not know much about it

Fast Hands Warm Up:

4 Goalkeepers working
6yd x 6 yd Square
2 Goalkeepers have a ball each and serve to the goalkeeper opposite simultaneously, trying to get the balls to collide to create a deflection

NOTE:

Start with goalkeepers rolling the balls as they are more likely to get the balls to collide.

Fast Hands:

4 Goalkeepers working
Server 1 opposite the goalkeeper and server 2 and server 3 to either side of the goalkeeper that is working.
Server 1 volleys into the goalkeeper then server 2 gently throws the ball at head height to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper then uses one hand to push the ball back to server 2.
Server 1 volleys then goalkeeper gets a serve from the opposite side from server 3.

NOTE:

Start slowly and then increase the pace so the goalkeeper is working as fast as they can whilst still making sure of the catch from server 1.

Goalkeeping

Down Low To Up High:

GK starts in set position, in the middle of the goal.
Server 1 rolls the ball along the ground into the corner for the GK to make a low down save.
GK returns the ball whilst still on the ground and then gets back to their feet and shuffles across the goal.
Server 2 use rebound net to give the GK a high save in the opposite corner.

Goalkeeping

Fast - get back on your line!:

Players sprint around discs to get into position. One is a goalkeeper and one is an outfield player who is to shoot.

Red player rolls a ball down between the discs when players have begun to run.

Swap lines after one repetition.
