How ever you feel most comfortable as long as you hit the ball! Otherwise my suggestion would be wide stance weight on the back leg, Bat held high and at the back of your swing. When you swing the bat forward transfer your weight from the back foot to the front foot and follow through. Then RUN RUN RUN

How does man select a sport?

I agree with Laurence but the direction that you what to direct the ball also determines your stance and the timing of your strike. It is also useful to note that a batter can stand anywhere in the batting square so long as both feet are in the box when the bowler releases the ball. A batter can then step out of the side of the box to strike the ball but is not allowed to step out of the front or back of the box on a good ball or a no ball until they have hit, missed or let the ball pass and are given out if they do. Once any of these has happenned, they CAN step out of the box to run to 1st in any direction! A tip after a no ball - coach your batters to move to stand in a different part of the box to confuse the bowler.
