Tennis: As high as you can

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

The player faces the back fence and imitates serving action. The player's goal is to reach with the racquet as high as possible and touch the fence with the top edge of the racquet.

COACHING POINTS

Low point of contact is a common factor of many serving mistakes. Hitting into the net is a visible confirmation for beginners that point of contact is definitely too low. Players have to learn how to reach up with the racquet to minimize these mistakes.

During this exercise, the player works on high point of contact. Understanding that higher we contact the ball, more clearance over the net we have is a first step to develop good serve. Many players hit with their arm bent, which is an inferior way to hitting with straight arm. Imitation is a good tool to start improvements in a technical area so players should always use free time to do this.
